SUSTAINABILITY

Punta Skala – a green resort directly on the sea!

Sustainability is one of our key corporate values – and this also holds true in Punta Skala! For this reason, topics like environmental protection, the use of impotable water, waste prevention and optimised energy use play a very important role in determining our actions, and therefore also an important role in your life here. But in Punta Skala, the word sustainability refers to more than just environmental aspects. As in our corporate values, the focus here is on people as the main players shaping the tourism industry.

On the Falkensteiner holiday peninsula of Punta Skala, we have therefore implemented a complex system together with international experts that will minimise our “ecological footprint” over the long term. An environmentally friendly construction method was one of our main priorities during the planning of the resort. And in order to safeguard and improve the local environment for you, the water treatment plant is intended to set standards in many ways. After all, maintaining the natural landscape and the unique habitat in Punta Skala is essential to your wellbeing here. The esteem for nature held by the resort’s builders ensures that you will continue to have the opportunity to enjoy the world’s most beautiful sunset in Punta Skala. A natural spectacle that shows just how important the sustainable implementation methods employed at the resort are to the peninsula’s resources.

The future-oriented water treatment plant supplies the water needed for daily use on the holiday peninsula and generates energy for heating and cooling. In addition, a completely organic purification system helps to preserve the environment.

The sustainable water treatment plant at Punta Skala

1 Water pump. Seawater is pumped out of the sea and into the plant at a constant temperature.

2 Energy generation. The seawater is used for cooling (in the summer) and heating (in the winter) for the hotels and the apartment complex. This reduces the need for fossil fuels.

3 Desalination system. Part of the seawater is desalinated using an osmosis system and can be used as drinking water. The remaining water is diverted back into the sea.

4 Purification system. Wastewater is cleansed using a completely organic purification system and is stored with the collected rain water and the greywater from the swimming pools. The impotable water is then used for flushing toilets and for watering the gardens.

The resort is also free of cars except for on arrival and departure. The main underground garage was integrated into the landscape so that cars do not have to be parked along the streets or in front of the hotels. Listen to the rush of waves at night through your open balcony door or enjoy the sound of the wind rustling through the pine trees during the day – because you won’t be disturbed by the noise of traffic in Punta Skala.

We will be happy to organise a fascinating, impressive tour through our resort and give you a “behind the scenes” look at Punta Skala. You can view our plant, technical rooms and other areas that are normally closed to the public under the guidance of a trained professional. To register for a tour or for more information, please contact our team in reception at the Falkensteiner Family Hotel Diadora.
